This One’s For You - PLANiversary

This One's For You - Planiversary

PLAN just celebrated its one year anniversary thanks to you.

Words by LVSHES

Cleverly called PLANiversary, PLAN’s latest event marked one year since its inception. The sold out celebration was held at the token PLAN house on January 17th and featured local DJs, flow toys, food and of course fun.

In a year PLAN has grown from a couple of glovers to a following of 1,173 on Facebook, hosted 100 plus attendees in the last three events, and just secured a venue. They have held multiple competitions, and are a partner with EmazingLights.

“2015 is gearing up to be an electric year for PLAN! We just hit one year of awesomeness. 365 days of sheer smiles,” cheered their Facebook page.

PLAN may have started with a handful of people but its evolution is attributed to the hard work of its members. Stemming from a place of PLURR (peace, love unity, respect and responsibility) it’s appropriate to call their growth organic.

Tito Giovanni Del Valle, a founder, discovered gloving through his sister, who started Glover of the Northwest. He loved how she used her creativity as an outlet. Gloving seemed like a rare art until he saw TJ Bundy, a fellow founder, in a mall doing finger shows. Having an instant connection they did what ravers do, rave together. Inspired and ignited Tito began to network at shows, starting the foundation of PLAN.

At first people were resistant to the idea, not sure what to make of this gloving group. At their third event Alex Perrin, a pilot (explanation coming), approached him with an interest in the community. The three of them, along with soon to be founder Jared Geber, sat down together bouncing ideas off each other. As the conversation grew so did the amount of people in it.

“What started as a little get together with friends changed into a culture, a family, a community. I never feel alone. That’s what we tell people, if you have PLAN you have a community,” says Tito.

That community gathered together this past month as they always do, filling the house up with lights, good vibes and an electric energy. Each person who walked through the door was given kandi made especially for the occasion. Homemade food was coupled with a delicious wine concoction as well as cake, because bitches love cake.

None of this would have been there if it weren’t for PLAN’s flight attendants. As PLAN sounds like plane the founders found it appropriate to name those who volunteer their skills and time to the cause flight attendants. Those in a leadership role are called what else but pilots. One of those flight attendants is Kelsea Falls.

“These people are my friends and my family. I look forward to each month’s event so I can not only see all the beautiful faces but I can also see how much each light artist has grown/improved over the past month. I love the lights and I love how each person puts their own unique individual artistic twist on what they create,” states Kelsea.

PLAN offers a unique place for glovers to continue to create and learn from one another. Its a space to ask questions, to share and instill confidence. Matt Delgato, glover name Deltron, has been there since the first event. Because of PLAN he is able to keep focused on what he wants to do, increase his gloving IQ. “This means practicing as much as I can, and being active in the community through the Facebook page, at PLAN events, and other functions such as the weekend EDM shows at the Roseland or Whiskey Bar, among others. I can spread my knowledge of gloving and learn from others at the same time.”

While PLAN is growing, it isn’t changing, the community is still living and acting on their original idea of community. PLAN grows because you do. It is a living, breathing representation of what love can do. You get out of PLAN what you put into it.

“It's an outlet for those of us around here who are compelled by the vibes within the scene to create our own visual expressions of the love that we feel around us,” Cory tells me in the PLAN house’s kitchen, making me think he should be writing this instead.

And yet I’m the one writing this. Before volunteering to be a voice of PLAN I had another voice in my head telling me that my writing is nothing special and that I am not good enough. I was afraid of rejection, criticism, and judgement.  But there was a louder voice fueled by, well--you all. The acceptance and encouragement I received from this community helped me quiet that harsh voice and write on.

It an experience like the one I had that I believe keep PLAN going. Cory said it best, “As an extension of the EDM scene PLAN not only showed me that it was OK to be myself, but it loved me for it.”

And soon to come -- PLAN.DJ

My last light show of the night was given to me by Chris Prewett, winner of October’s competition. Putting it simply, he summarized, “It’s just going to get better and better, I love it.”

Happy Planiversary,
Kris AKA Sunflower
