The Plan for PLAN.E Lotsa Love - Lineup, Sneak Peeks & More

Last night seven of our dutiful PLAN pilots and flight attendants prepared for PLAN.E Lotsa Love’s takeoff. Strictly BYOB and PLURR the inaugural event will be flying high on February 21st from 7:00 p.m. to February 22nd at 1 a.m.

The crew was busy getting the stage, photo booth and decorations ready for those of us wearing our party pants next Saturday. The space has 20-foot high ceilings, perfect for housing a rented set of subs and an awesome lineup. The stellar sound system was tested last night.

“The speaker system is more than enough to fill the space, we made sure to give it a little extra boom,” stated founder, Tito Giovanni Del Valle. While the venue is new, there are still those elements that you came to know and love at the PLAN house.

There will be candy, crackers and veggies—but make sure you fill up before hand! It’s BYOB, like always. And as always please be responsible (that last R in PLURR is so important). You really don’t want to be THAT guy and white girl wasted looks good on no one ladies.

They’ve arranged couches and invested in mats to go along the walls for nonstop gloving, or if you need a break from shuffling. Resident DJs will be playing long into the night on an elevated stage. So basically it's like Whiskey Bar, but with better bathrooms.

For your viewing pleasure, the guys brought in laser lights, and will have a spotlight on the PLAN banner.

We all love pictures so make sure you hit up the photo booth. It will be bigger—even though I’m sure you all love seeing how many humans you can cram in one picture—and better than ever with a PLAN backdrop to commemorate the event. Keep your eyes open for our videographer and photographer so you can make the next recap video and album. Oh and look for me, too. I’ll be the cool girl with the digital recorder.

So what all goes into getting a venue? Besides hours of work the founders, pilots and flight attendants have put in, a venue generally requires a deposit, lease and liability insurance. That being said please remember that this is hopefully our new spot, and take care of it the same way you would the PLAN house.

Tito reiterates, “We need to make sure we continue to have a home.” While Lotsa Love goes until 1 a.m. the crew will have a cleaning party until 4 a.m. (there’s a pizza incentive).

And while you thought it couldn't get better, here's a sneak peek at the lineup!

I sincerely hope to see you there, until then,

This One’s For You - PLANiversary

This One's For You - Planiversary

PLAN just celebrated its one year anniversary thanks to you.

Words by LVSHES

Cleverly called PLANiversary, PLAN’s latest event marked one year since its inception. The sold out celebration was held at the token PLAN house on January 17th and featured local DJs, flow toys, food and of course fun.

In a year PLAN has grown from a couple of glovers to a following of 1,173 on Facebook, hosted 100 plus attendees in the last three events, and just secured a venue. They have held multiple competitions, and are a partner with EmazingLights.

“2015 is gearing up to be an electric year for PLAN! We just hit one year of awesomeness. 365 days of sheer smiles,” cheered their Facebook page.

PLAN may have started with a handful of people but its evolution is attributed to the hard work of its members. Stemming from a place of PLURR (peace, love unity, respect and responsibility) it’s appropriate to call their growth organic.

Tito Giovanni Del Valle, a founder, discovered gloving through his sister, who started Glover of the Northwest. He loved how she used her creativity as an outlet. Gloving seemed like a rare art until he saw TJ Bundy, a fellow founder, in a mall doing finger shows. Having an instant connection they did what ravers do, rave together. Inspired and ignited Tito began to network at shows, starting the foundation of PLAN.

At first people were resistant to the idea, not sure what to make of this gloving group. At their third event Alex Perrin, a pilot (explanation coming), approached him with an interest in the community. The three of them, along with soon to be founder Jared Geber, sat down together bouncing ideas off each other. As the conversation grew so did the amount of people in it.

“What started as a little get together with friends changed into a culture, a family, a community. I never feel alone. That’s what we tell people, if you have PLAN you have a community,” says Tito.

That community gathered together this past month as they always do, filling the house up with lights, good vibes and an electric energy. Each person who walked through the door was given kandi made especially for the occasion. Homemade food was coupled with a delicious wine concoction as well as cake, because bitches love cake.

None of this would have been there if it weren’t for PLAN’s flight attendants. As PLAN sounds like plane the founders found it appropriate to name those who volunteer their skills and time to the cause flight attendants. Those in a leadership role are called what else but pilots. One of those flight attendants is Kelsea Falls.

“These people are my friends and my family. I look forward to each month’s event so I can not only see all the beautiful faces but I can also see how much each light artist has grown/improved over the past month. I love the lights and I love how each person puts their own unique individual artistic twist on what they create,” states Kelsea.

PLAN offers a unique place for glovers to continue to create and learn from one another. Its a space to ask questions, to share and instill confidence. Matt Delgato, glover name Deltron, has been there since the first event. Because of PLAN he is able to keep focused on what he wants to do, increase his gloving IQ. “This means practicing as much as I can, and being active in the community through the Facebook page, at PLAN events, and other functions such as the weekend EDM shows at the Roseland or Whiskey Bar, among others. I can spread my knowledge of gloving and learn from others at the same time.”

While PLAN is growing, it isn’t changing, the community is still living and acting on their original idea of community. PLAN grows because you do. It is a living, breathing representation of what love can do. You get out of PLAN what you put into it.

“It's an outlet for those of us around here who are compelled by the vibes within the scene to create our own visual expressions of the love that we feel around us,” Cory tells me in the PLAN house’s kitchen, making me think he should be writing this instead.

And yet I’m the one writing this. Before volunteering to be a voice of PLAN I had another voice in my head telling me that my writing is nothing special and that I am not good enough. I was afraid of rejection, criticism, and judgement.  But there was a louder voice fueled by, well--you all. The acceptance and encouragement I received from this community helped me quiet that harsh voice and write on.

It an experience like the one I had that I believe keep PLAN going. Cory said it best, “As an extension of the EDM scene PLAN not only showed me that it was OK to be myself, but it loved me for it.”

My last light show of the night was given to me by Chris Prewett, winner of October’s competition. Putting it simply, he summarized, “It’s just going to get better and better, I love it.”

Happy Planiversary,

The PNW Newest PLAN

Words by LVSHES

Since its inception a year ago, PLAN has become a tangible PLUR community. Originally created by glovers for glovers, the group has organically grown to include all those who find a home in the electronic dance community (EDM) in the Pacific Northwest.

PLAN’s mission is to “develop an all encompassing community of artists by bringing them together to create an electric atmosphere.”

As their 893 members are strewn throughout the PNW Facebook is a integral part of keeping the community together. The page is a place where glovers and flow toy artists can post videos for comments, encouragement and feedback. Others can find out what friends will go to shows and share music. And DJs can share their newest mixes with the community.

Another way to give a sense of community is to actually bring everyone together at what they call PLAN events or PLAN.E. I had the opportunity to attend my first PLAN.E on a Saturday night at some of the founder’s house. Not knowing a thing about gloving other than I enjoy watching it I was nervous about having nothing in common with this seemingly exclusive community. A sixer in my hand and a nervous flutter in my heart, I walked into the bass-bumping abode.

My fears of having nothing to do at this “gloving” event were squashed within seconds of walking through the door. Those who I had briefly met at shows welcomed me with hugs. They showed the excitement I felt inside. I instantly felt like I belonged.

The house was full of music being spun by local talent, homemade food, party people and of course—glovers. As my eyes adjusted to the dark I saw the colors swirling methodically, energetically—entrancing their on lookers.

"We welcome those of all skill levels. We also welcome those who bring the community positive PLURR vibes," states their Facebook page.

Peace, love, unity and respect was alive and well in the house that bustled with energy, bass and booze. However, I should make it clear here and now, while this was a party it was not a—as the kids are saying—a place to get turnt up. Rather than get shit faced people were having their faces melted by the talent that surrounded them.

I ran into the first DJs of the night, Loveable Foreplay who consists of Michael McGuire and Jordan Payne from Olympia. They played a 50-minute set that focused on getting Planners hyped for the gloving and loving that was to come. They played for a crowd of 30 plus which is pretty impressive considering that means the attendees were so energized they showed up on time—even early to the event.

"This is a weird place. I like weird—I embrace it," said Payne while dressed in a purple bandana and a Ninja Turtle tee to match his cohort’s.

"It's all about the vibe. It's everyone that loves the music and everyone that loves the scene," says McGuire.

This was apparent as I entered the kitchen to people watch. There were girls with kandicovered belts, others hiding behind a camera lens, people shuffling in the next room—everyone was being themselves here.

TJ Bundy, who spun after Loveable Foreplay as Tee Jay, is also a proud founder of PLAN. He claimed that there's nothing quite like PLAN calling it "very much an original accident."

This accident has inspired glovers from all over the PNW to come together.

"PLAN gives glovers a space where they can show each other different concepts to use but mostly it’s a place where they encourage and inspire each other," Kiran Fisher told me. Outfitted in a teal shirt I realized he was matching with other people at the event. He told me that there's about 20 people on PLAN's staff that help with everything from setting up to cooking and promoting on social media.

Apparently the event I was at was considered small, even though I was overwhelmed with the photo booth, art section, two levels of gloving areas, DJ booth and friendly faces. Gloving was happening all around me. Hugs being given, compliments about improvement and tips being traded into the night.

I spoke with one of the glovers, Kyle Smith, who gave me the low down on gloving culture for about five minutes before we were interrupted by a group of crazy kids—that’s what I get for trying to interview someone in a photo booth.

Gloving for about a year now, he claims he's not creative rather passionate. It takes time, dedication and most of all desire to glove and glove well, and those who are apart of PLAN have just that.

Growth is another value of PLAN. “Our mission is to develop an all encompassing community of artists by bringing them together to create an electric atmosphere.” Constantly evolving, changing and improving PLAN looks towards the future and like their glover’s lights it’s nothing but bright.

The group just established a new logo:

Is home to Alex Perrin, a founder and now winner of IGC (International Gloving Championship) 1st Place in the Open Tournament hosted by EmazingLights. Can boast, but won’t, 893 members on Facebook. And is currently raising money to have their own venue.

Up next for PLAN is a “Sunday-Funday Gloving Competition” December 14th at 3 PM in Portland, Oregon. For more information or to join please go to PLAN's Facebook page.
